MUFFLER CARE TIP #1
Under Carriage Wash
The muffler tip, which can be readily seen at the rear of your vehicle, is the first part of the muffler system to rot. This is because the moisture that travels through the muffler system normally settles at the tip. It is also the only part of the muffler system that is exposed to all the elements of nature. When washing the body of your vehicle, take time out to wash the tip as well.
MUFFLER CARE TIP #2
Use The Correct Gas
Using the incorrect gas which has been diluted with water or kerosene oil is a sure way to damage your muffler. Putting certain additives to your gas will produce moisture that will settle and rot your muffler. Never dilute your gas with anything; only use gas that is suitable for your engine.
MUFFLER CARE TIP #3
Blow exhaust
Most people do not realize that the least you drive your vehicle, the quicker the muffler rots. When your vehicle is parked, condensation builds up in the muffler system and settles. If this is not blown out, the moisture will gradually erode the muffler. If your vehicle is going to be parked for more than two days, try to get someone to start the vehicle and blow out the muffler. Driving your vehicle around town does not guarantee that all the moisture will be blown out.
MUFFLER CARE TIP #4
Check Your Muffler Regularly
Always take your vehicle to a professional muffler company to ensure that the system is fitted properly. A muffler system which is not fitted properly will not last very long. Check for exhaust leaks and exhaust integrity regularly.
